The New Britax B-Dual has arrived!!!

Written by Babyguds

The New Britax B-Dual has arrived!!!

The brand new double pushchair recently launched by Britax has arrived at Babyguds!!  The Britax B-Dual is out on display and has faced vigourous testing since arriving in store and we have to say it has lived up to the high standards we have come to expect from the market leaders in nursery goods.  The Britax B-Dual doesn't feel much bigger than a single pushchair and was so easy to use and fold.

We particularly liked the different seat combinations that the Britax B-dual has which we think can give this pushchair the edge over the other products which are already available.  Unlike other pushchairs similar to this already on the market the Britax B-Dual can have both seats facing each other, take the Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR as well as the second seat unit and will also take the Britax carrycot.

We are already taking orders on this much anticipated new pushchair so call in store for a demonstartion by our Britax trained staff and take advantage of our in store discounts that as a Britax Excellence centre Babyguds are able to offer!!

The BabyStyle Oyster Black Pearl is on its Way

Written by Babyguds

BabyStyle Oyster Black Pearl

The countdown is on, only a few days until the BabyStyle Oyster Black Pearl is due for delivery. It was forecast for the end of Feb and as far as we know it's still on track. There should be one on the Babyguds shop floor as soon as they're available so all our customers can come and view it instore. We've seen it and we're sure you won't be disapointed.

The BabyStyle Oyster Pushchair is one of Babyguds' recommended buys and also one of our best selling pushchairs. The Black Pearl, as its name suggests, is something special. With all the usual BabyStyle Oyster features the Black Pearl adds a stroke of élan to your choice of stroller. The hand-stitched handle and bumper bar will not be lost on the more discerning customer. Featuring a striking satin black anodised chassis and individual styling with leatherette piping and faux leather panels the Black Pearl stands out from the crowd in a subtle yet dramatic way.

The BabyStyle Oyster Travel System is easily formed by adding a matching BabyStyle Car Seat, a Britax Baby-Safe plus SHR which clicks straight on to the chassis or you can purchase additional adapters so you can also fit the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix Car Seat to the chassis.

You can also turn the Oyster into a pram by adding the matching carrycot so you have the BabyStyle Oyster 3-in-1. With all these options available, the new striking Black Satin Chassis and the matching Black fabric the BabyStyle Oyster Black Pearl is sure to be a big competitor in 2010.

The BabyStyle Oyster has already won the "Which" Best Buy - Pushchairs December 2009 and the "Practical Parenting and Pregnancy" Silver 2009/10 and Babyguds thinks it will be in for more again in 2010.

10 Steps to Potty Training

Written by Angus

Although there are no hard and fast rules, these tips should help make the journey from nappy to potty more smooth. Remember, however, that accidents are inevitable at first – so don’t be angry or make a fuss. If, however, your toddler shows any signs of distress about potty training, or has lots of accidents, stop for a week or more before trying again.

TOP 10 WAYS TO POTTY TRAIN

1. Make your purchase
From around 18 months onwards, buy a comfortable, broad-based potty. Let him sit on it for fun now and again – before bath time is a good time to try. Tell him what it’s for, and if he does anything in it, praise him. If he’s not happy, wait a few days and try again.

2. Choose a pot spot
Decide on a place to keep the potty so that he gets used to where it’s kept, and when you think he’s ready, increase his number of daily visits. Every time he sits on it, remind him what you hope he’ll do on it from time to time, and always praise him if he does something.

3. Time it right
Continue with these occasional sessions. If your child does a poo at more or less the same time every day, get him to sit on the potty at that time, explaining and reminding him what it’s for. If his habits aren’t regular, watch out for the signs that he is about to ‘go’ (reddening face, concentrated look, standing still) and quickly put him on the potty.

4. Bear his bottom
Leave his nappy off from time to time. Try this one morning or afternoon when you’re at home, and tell him it’s because he is learning how to use the potty. Sit him on the potty now and then. He may wet or dirty lots of pairs of pants without using the potty – if so, go back to steps 2 and 3, and wait a few days before trying again.

5. Ask him nicely
Start asking him if he needs the potty – but don’t nag! He may sometimes refuse and then promptly wet his pants. If this is the case, don’t criticise. Help to increase his sense of independence by reducing the number of times you decide to put him on the potty – your aim is to help him recognise the signals for himself.

6. Skip to the loo
Once he’s comfortable with the potty and you think he understands what it’s for, you can start to encourage him to use the toilet. To make sure he feels comfortable and safe on the loo, buy him a special trainer seat and explain to him that using the loo is what grown-ups do (he’s probably seen you on it enough times!).

7. Be prepared
Put him on the potty or toilet before you go out. It’ll take time for him to learn to urinate at will without having first felt the urge to go, so be patient with him.

8. Make allowances
Gradually leave your child nappy-free for longer, more frequent periods. You might want to use disposable trainer pants instead, especially when you’re away from home or when you don’t know if there’ll be a toilet you can get to quickly. These absorb accidents but can also be pulled up and down like ordinary pants. Accidents are unavoidable: try to be sympathetic rather than irritated!

9. Relinquish the power
Let your child use the loo more often in preference to the potty, and allow him to decide for himself more and more often when he wants to use it. Try to keep your reminders to an absolute minimum.

10. Bye-bye nappies!
When he is clean and dry most days, use nappies only at night. He’ll probably still have a few accidents, but keep on persevering. Remember, he’ll still need help from you with the more advanced skills of bottom-wiping and dealing with zips and buttons.

A Good Night’s Rest

Written by Angus

A good night’s sleep can be hard to come by during pregnancy.

Whether it’s heartburn, constant trips to the loo, baby on the move or just your bump getting in the way, there are a whole host of niggles that keep mums-to-be awake at night.

Here are a few ways to help you get some much-needed shut-eye:

  • Avoid caffeine (tea, coffee and cola drinks) near bedtime.
  • Try keeping your fluid intake to the daytime, to avoid those endless toilet breaks.
  • Avoid large meals before bedtime, you’ll find it hard to settle with your digestive system in full swing. However, a warm milky drink and some oatmeal biscuits can keep your blood sugar level up.
  • Wind down before you try to sleep – try a warm bath, reading, listening to some soothing music.
  • Exercise can help you sleep better, but if you do too much just before bed you might feel more ready to get up and go than relax for the night. Keep your workouts for late afternoon or at least four hours before you go to bed.
  • Bump taken over the bed? Try putting pillows between your legs and under your bump, or using a specially designed pregnancy pillow to support your tummy.
  • If you really can’t sleep at night, take a nap during the day. Forty winks might mean you go to bed later, but at least you’ll be getting the rest you need.
Don’t read or watch television in bed – keep the bedroom for sleeping in.
  • If you’re losing sleep because you have worries or problems, tossing and turning won’t help. You’re better off active, so read a book or have a bath and tackle your restlessness head on.

STEP ON IT for Breast Cancer Research

Written by Angus

Breast Cancer Campaign is inviting all new mothers to get back in shape by taking part in our new individual walking event, STEP ON IT.

The challenge is to walk a step for every person diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK this year – that’s 46,000 steps. You can do this on your own, with friends, or even on a stroll with your newborn.   Simply ask your family and friends to sponsor you for every step you take and help Campaign beat breast cancer while getting fit along the way.   Singer and mum-of-one, Suzanne Shaw, has lent her support to the event. She said: “I think it’s brilliant that Breast Cancer Campaign has this new walking challenge because STEP ON IT is suitable for everyone. You don’t have to be super fit to take part and the money you raise will go towards vital breast cancer research. I’m very proud to support STEP ON IT and hope that many people will join me in counting their steps while supporting this very worthwhile cause.”

Events Executive, Sarah England, added: “We hope that lots of new mums will enjoy the challenge while raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign. It’s a really easy idea and a great challenge for women who love to walk and want to get in shape after having a baby. So why not step up to a healthier lifestyle and help us to continue our mission to beat breast cancer?”   46,000 steps is approximately 23 miles – in that distance you could:  push your pram around your biggest park several times; shop for baby clothes and accessories at your local shopping centre or take in the beautiful sights of your local tourist spot on a day out with friends and family.

Not only is STEP ON IT a simple, fun challenge but walking is great exercise that’s good for your health; it helps prevent weight gain and boosts energy levels promoting a feeling of general well being.  Regular exercise is also important in reducing the risk of a number of diseases including breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, colon cancer, and osteoporosis.

Sign up today and you will be sent a pedometer, hints and tips on how to clock up your steps and sponsorship forms. To request a STEP ON IT fundraising pack, or for more information, please call the Events team on 020 7749 4126 or visit www.friendshipwalks.co.uk/steponit
